With Alunit AlN HP, CeramTec has introduced an innovative high-performance aluminum nitride substrate. With a 40% improvement in flexural strength and high thermal conductivity, the material offers advantages for applications in energy generation and distribution, vehicle electrification and power converters.
With a flexural strength of ≥ 450 MPa, Alunit AIN HP enables the conductive metallization to adhere to the ceramic substrate for a long time, even under extreme thermal cycles. The thermal expansion coefficient of 3.7 - 5.7 ppm/K (at up to 300 °C) is close to that of typical semiconductor materials. As a result, Alunit AlN HP increases the long-term stability of power modules. Further advantages include the high thermal conductivity of 170 W/mK and an electrical insulation and dielectric strength of ≥ 15 kV/mm at 20 °C. Metallization with copper or aluminium is possible, for example DCB (Direct Copper Bonded), AMB (Active Metal Brazing) or SMB (Sputtering Metal Bonding) ceramic substrates.
Alunit AlN HP is the material of choice for use in high-voltage and high-power modules as well as for high-power LEDs and chip resistors - especially with higher currents and ever smaller components. In these areas of application, Alunit AlN HP is technically far superior to IMS (Insulated Metal Substrate) materials, for example. CeramTec offers the product as a substrate in the master plate format of 190.5 x 138.0 x 0.635 mm; other thicknesses (e.g. 1.00 mm) and formats are available on request.
Optimum flexural strength
With the development of the high-tech substrate Alunit AlN HP, CeramTec is supporting decarbonization and electrification, e.g. in the areas of e-mobility, heating, cooling and the conversion and distribution of electrical energy. The electronic modules required for these applications must meet extreme requirements with ever smaller dimensions: from optimum flexural strength, high thermal conductivity and excellent electrical insulation to minimal expansion coefficients.
CeramTec is the innovation leader in Al2O3 substrates and is also a leading one-stop-shop supplier for high-quality ceramic substrates in Europe. The product portfolio is based on its own high-volume production capacities and ranges from aluminum nitride HP, aluminum oxide, aluminum oxide reinforced with zirconium oxide and zirconium oxide to silicon nitride. Thanks to production in Europe, CeramTec offers exemplary quality standards and short delivery routes. With more than 100 years of experience in the production of technical ceramics, CeramTec has also proven itself as a development partner.
