Compact low-power SiP integrates LTE-M/NB-IoT and DECT NR+ modems

Wireless-IoT System-in-Package nRF9151

Nordic Semiconductor, provider of low-power wireless IoT solutions, announces the availability of its smallest and lowest-power system-in-package (SiP), the nRF9151, together with its associated development kit (DK). The nRF9151 is a fully integrated, pre-certified SiP with an application MCU for the development of extensive IoT applications or for use as a stand-alone cellular modem. The manufacturer's target markets include industrial automation, product tracking (asset tracking), smart city concepts, smart metering and smart agriculture. The offering includes hardware with a programmable application processor, software, cloud services, development tools and product support.

The nRF9151 differs from its predecessor, the nRF9161, in particular through a significant reduction in footprint, which enables more compact products without compromising on performance. In addition to power class 3 (23 dBm), the nRF9151 also supports power class 5 (20 dBm), resulting in a 45 percent reduction in peak power consumption thanks to its low-power design, which lowers the cost of battery-powered products. The nRF9151 development kit is available with SIM cards from Onomondo and Wireless Logic, making it an ideal starting point for the development of IoT mobile applications. The nRF9151 system includes a dedicated 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 application processor with 1 MB Flash and 256 KB RAM, a multi-mode LTE-M/NB IoT modem with GNSS, power management and an RF front end. The SiP is software and tool compatible with the predecessor system nRF9161. As Nordic takes full responsibility for the module/SiP and the design environment, the company offers the necessary support for long-lasting IoT applications with a product lifetime of more than a decade.
