productronica 2025 - Anniversary and current key topics

The world's leading trade fair, which will take place in Munich from November 18 to 21, 2025, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Launched as an exhibition section of electronica, productronica has developed into the most important international meeting place for electronics manufacturing. The conceptual sponsor of productronica is the industry association VDMA Productronic. The key themes of the trade fair - advanced packaging, power electronics and trustworthy microelectronics - reflect the rapid development of the industry and show where it is heading.

Commenting on the event's anniversary, Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director of Messe München, said: "For 50 years now, productronica has been showcasing innovations along the entire value chain of electronics manufacturing. This makes it an indispensable pacemaker for the entire industry. In addition, together with electronica, it strengthens Munich's position as a leading international electronics location."

About this year's trade fair

Over 1,400 companies from the semiconductor, PCB, EMS, SMT, inspection and quality, production and smart factory, cable, coil and hybrid circuit sectors will be presenting the latest production technologies and solutions at productronica. These include key players such as ASMPT, Ersa, Fuji, Komax, LPKF, Rohde & Schwarz and Viscom.

This year's trade fair will focus on the three key themes of advanced packaging, power electronics and securing the value chain through trustworthy microelectronics. Advanced packaging now plays a key role in microelectronics. Power electronics are essential for electromobility, photovoltaics, wind power and energy storage systems and therefore guarantee sustainability and resource conservation. Trustworthy microelectronics refers to the development and production of secure, reliable and tamper-proof semiconductor technologies along a transparent and controlled value chain. The aim is to ensure integrity, authenticity and cyber security - especially in safety-critical applications. Trustworthy microelectronics are of central importance for sectors such as automotive, industrial automation, medical technology and defense.

Messe München is presenting the productronica innovation award for the sixth time. Exhibitors have the opportunity to submit their products and solutions in the categories Cables, Coils & Hybrids, Future Markets, Inspection & Quality, PCB & EMS, Semiconductor and SMT. An independent jury will evaluate the innovations.

All in all, visitors can expect a promising accompanying program in addition to the lavishly equipped forums and conferences - the only question is whether three days of the trade fair will be enough to properly appreciate all this.

Examples of the presentations

ATN Produktionstechnik Niemeier is expanding its portfolio with additional variants and functions of the Inoplacer systems. The basis is a precise gantry system with servo motors, spindle drives and ball-bearing linear guides, which ensures the transport of PCBs with integrated transfer belts, vertical storage magazines and board handling. Production processes can thus be integrated into existing lines. The systems support a placement area of up to 600 mm × 350 mm and cover a component range from chip types 0201 to QFP, BGA and µBGA. The integrated 5-megapixel camera for component measurement enables the measurement of components of any size thanks to the multi-field-of-view function. For prototype production, bulk material detection enables the picking of individual components in segmented trays. In addition to the InoJet dispensing solutions with one or two dispensers, configurations with up to six placement heads are also available. The range includes inline production systems for medium quantities as well as the Inoplacer Jr, a compact tabletop unit for prototyping and smaller production batches. All systems are controlled via the INOSOFT software, which enables operation, process control and connection.

SEHO Systems
and SMT Thermal Discoveries are exhibiting together at productronica 2025: Two brands. One presence. Double the innovation. The two industry specialists are pooling their expertise and strengths on over 200 m² and providing information on the latest technologies in the areas of selective, wave and reflow soldering, automatic inspection, automation technology, temperature control systems and soldering systems for power electronics with the use of formic acid. In addition to established reliability - with low maintenance requirements - energy efficiency and individual adaptation to special customer requirements are the particular focus of the latest product generations.

Hall A4 Stand 578

ULT
will be presenting extraction and filter technology for industrial air pollution control. The extraction and filter solutions sustainably remove airborne pollutants such as soldering fumes/vapors, laser fumes, dusts, vapors, odors and gases. This protects personnel, production equipment, product quality and the environment. A wide range of extraction and filter solutions is available, from mobile and flexible systems to large stationary units. The modular design enables flexible adaptation to process-related changes or different types of emissions. In addition, users can save considerable operating and maintenance costs through clever system designs. ULT experts will be on hand to explain to interested visitors the potential savings that can be made for each individual application.

Hall A1 Stand 135

At the trade fair, test and inspection technology provider Göpel electronic will be presenting the 'Multi Line AXI' with combined area and line detector technology, the 'MagicLight' lighting solution in the Multi Line Assist, the 'Multi Line CCI' 3D coating thickness measurement system and the X250 AOI camera module. For in-system programming and boundary scan, the FlashFOX dual-channel programmer, the EJS Coach demo board and the JULIET Series 3 JTAG/Boundary Scan Tester will be on show.

Hall A2, Stand 239

At the trade fair,
Stannol will be presenting a development project for a silver-free, oxygen-tolerant sintering paste. It can be processed without pressure or inert gas. The copper-based paste bonds particles diffusion-driven and enables stable electrical and thermal properties at lower temperatures. The recycling company demotronic will also be exhibiting at the stand.

Hall A4, Stand 470

Rehm Thermal Systems
will be showcasing pioneering technologies for soldering, coating and drying at the trade fair. The VisionX series sets standards in efficiency and stability, while the CondensoX series delivers high quality results through sustainable vapor phase soldering with formic acid. The ProtectoX series makes coating and dispensing more precise and flexible thanks to the new Hurricane valve. The new RDS UV LED system stands for energy-efficient and reliable curing in seconds. Rehm will also be presenting complete, intelligently networked production lines via Hermes and CFX interfaces.

Hall A4, Stand 335

Yamaha Robotics Europe
will be showing the new YRP10e entry-level printer, flexible LM placement heads for large and irregularly shaped components and further developments to the Intelligent Factory software. There will also be a demonstration of how production processes can be further automated through collaboration between pick-and-place machines and autonomous mobile robots.

Hall A3, Stand 323

Barbara MüllerBarbara Müller, Exhibition Director Messe München, listed further highlights of the anniversary productronica in our interview of the month (see p. 1304). For example, VDMA Productronic will be presenting an impressive special show, including an electrically powered aircraft and a virtual technology laboratory. The European division of the US Global Electronics Association, formerly the IPC, will also be there again - with a forum and the Hand Soldering Competition, where the world champion in hand soldering will be crowned on the last day of the trade fair. The Future Packaging Line, organized by Fraunhofer IZM, will showcase a continuous live production line on an area of 360 m² and with 21 exhibitors (see p. 1229). Modern cleanroom technology can also be experienced in a cleanroom. And the topic of sustainability is not just abstract: exhibitors have the opportunity to sponsor a tree for a reforestation project in the north-east of Munich - the seedlings or trees will 'visit' productronica themselves and can be viewed at the trade fair. The historical development of the trade fair and electronics manufacturing technologies can also be marveled at in a special exhibition area to mark the big anniversary.
