Kyocera is doubling its production capacity for fine ceramic components used in semiconductor manufacturing with two additional factories at the Kokubu Campus in Kagoshima, Japan. The company intends to respond to global customer demand for semiconductors and at the same time secure its expanding business activities. The corresponding contracts were signed on October 20, 2021 in the presence of regional political officials from Kagoshima Prefecture and high-ranking Kyocera employees. Construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of November 2021.
The company plans to start production of fine ceramic components at the new Plant No. 7-1 in October 2022 and Plant No. 7-2 in October 2023. It is expected that the company's expansion in the Fine Ceramics division will promote economic development in the region and create new employment opportunities. The doubling of production capacity will have an impact far beyond this region: Kyocera sees the growth of Internet-of-Things (ioT) technology and 5G telecommunications as the reasons for sharply rising demand for semiconductors, which are used in almost all products - from PCs and smartphones to cars and in data centers. The fine ceramic components used in semiconductor production will be in correspondingly high demand.
