The component manufacturer elektron systeme has expanded its Weißenohe site in the Nuremberg metropolitan region with an investment worth millions. The focus was on the installation of a new SMD line including printer, 3D inspection system and oven, the introduction of a new manufacturing execution system (MES) and the construction of an automated component warehouse. The latter also required an extension to the existing building.
The new SMD line has significantly increased capacity. The pick-and-place machines process components smaller than 01005 and can load longboards up to 1200 mm in length. Material supply is now handled by the automated component warehouse with space for 18,000 containers, which corresponds to around 90 million components. Storage takes place at a constant temperature and humidity and is designed for requirements up to MSL level 6. An OC-Scan CCX X-ray scanner from former sister company optical control is used to automatically count the components stored and retrieved, thus ensuring a permanent inventory. To ensure high availability, the company uses part of the warehouse for important or critical components. Consignment warehouses can also be set up on request.
All order-related communication was merged in a new MES. The result is end-to-end process chains and seamless traceability down to component level. Planning and production control in real time ensures significantly increased process reliability, so that information on the status of an order is available at all times.
