IATF 16949 recertification increases level of digitalization for automotive customers

EMS service provider Limtronik responded to the continuously growing complexity of electronic products in the automotive industry and went through the IATF 16949 recertification process. This certification is the only globally recognized quality management standard to date that is applicable to all companies operating in the automotive supply chain and covers the most important criteria in this area.

"Suppliers without valid IATF 16949 certification are finding it increasingly difficult to supply a first-tier automotive supplier or a car manufacturer with series parts. The relevant certification is often a contractual requirement and proves that companies have been tested and found compliant with the requirements of the standard. Although it also works without certification, the company awarding the contract must then ensure that the supplier complies with these standards. This means that you also have to invest a considerable amount of time and effort in order to award a contract," explains Limtronik Managing Director Gerd Ohl. A certified management system in accordance with IATF 16949 is the ticket to new markets and customers.

The International Automotive Task Force developed the uniform standard which, together with applicable customer-specific requirements of the automotive industry and the specifications of ISO 9001 and ISO 9000, defines the basic requirements for quality management systems for series and spare parts production in the automotive industry. "The highest standards and quality across the entire supply chain are expected by the international automotive industry. I accompanied the recertification process right through to successful completion. Simple deviations were effectively rectified by our action management and the certification was maintained. This means that we have proof for all customers that Limtronik is committed to continuous quality improvement," explains Philip Schüler, Quality Management at Limtronik. The company, which is based in Limburg an der Lahn, is a Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) partner. JDM means that the company supports its customers from product development to the final product ready for series production.
