Once again, the Fachverband Elektronikdesign und -fertigung (FED) honored outstanding work by PCB designers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland at its annual conference in Potsdam.
A jury of six experts evaluated designs according to technical standards, manufacturability and documentation and reached their verdict after intensive deliberation. According to jury head Erika Reel, who is responsible for design within the FED board, the level of submissions in 2022 was again very high and showed "how creatively yet production-oriented designers can overcome complex challenges".
The atmosphere in the congress hall on 29.9.2022 was correspondingly tense. The respective winners in four categories were honored and received their large-format certificates from Erika Reel. The exceptional achievements were always recognized by various well-wishers; the second and third place winners also received their certificates from Reel and strong applause from the audience.
This year, Daniel Bock (CiBoard) was honored in the '3D/Construction Space' category for the development of the heart in an e-cigarette, in which the installation of a pressure sensor during PCB production had been particularly challenging; in the 'High Density' category, Wilfried Bauer (Advantest Europe) for the plug-in module of an IC tester with RF signals up to 21 GhZ; Michael Dillinger (TQ Systems) in the 'High Power' category for the prototype of a compact yet very powerful charger for e-bike batteries; and Alfred Fuchs (Ginzinger electronic systems) in the newly established 'Simply Ingenious' category for a project to generate a high voltage of 30.000 volts for electrostatic precipitators in biomass plants.
The award ceremony was preceded by words of welcome from the new FED Chairman Dieter Müller and his outgoing predecessor Rainer Thüringer, who had handed over the baton after many fruitful years.
