Panasonic Industry has announced its decision to phase out the production of base materials for printed circuit boards at its plant in Enns (Upper Austria) in the course of the calendar year 2025.
Around 140 employees will be affected by the plant closure. This means that Panasonic's last production plant for base materials in Europe will cease operations. The production of base materials is to be relocated to sites in China, Japan or Taiwan by the end of December 2025. According to a company spokesperson, one of the main reasons for the closure is the decline in Europe's market share for base materials from around 20% to 2% over the last 20 years.
Panasonic Industry intends to continue to offer these products to its customers in Europe. The company will work closely with customers, suppliers and distribution partners to support a successful transition of these products to the new manufacturing sites and ensure the continuity of the supply chain. The company wants to find socially acceptable solutions for the employees together with the works council.
