The international semiconductor association SEMI has scheduled a new virtual "SEMI Technology Unites Global Summit" for the week of February 15-19. As the somewhat unwieldy wording suggests, the summit is intended to highlight the unifying agenda of the global and regional high-tech industries in the current difficult geopolitical circumstances and developments. Serena Brischetto from Semi Europe in Berlin explains that the trigger for the new event was to provide a replacement platform for the numerous exhibitors who missed out on Munich's Semicon Europa 2020, which had to be completely canceled last November due to coronavirus.
SEMI Technology Unites Global Summit 2021-01-21
"The semiconductor industry, with its trade volume of 426 billion US dollars and driving the global 2 trillion dollar electronics industry, is the driver of the global digital transformation," says Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of Semi, outlining the importance of the new summit. "The continued growth of the semiconductor industry is only possible if all companies and industries work together. The SEMI Technology Unites Global Summit is an excellent platform for industry stakeholders to shape the digital future for social and economic prosperity."
The virtual summit, which has just started, is organized thematically and regionally accordingly. The extensive program is divided into eight current topics in promising growth sectors: Smart Mobility, Advanced Packaging, Medtech, Fab Management, Manufacturing, MEMS and Sensors, Advocacy and Workplace Diversity. Of course, the Summit (like the fancy Semicon Europa 2020) offers digital exhibition booths with information-ready booth crews, grouped in regional pavilions from all industrial regions and accessible interactively.
Thirteen prominent industry leaders have been recruited as keynoters, including Sabine Herlischka from Infineon, Luc Van den Hove from imec, Sekiguchi Akihia from Tokyo Electron, Maria Marced from TSMC Europe, Rüdiger Dorn from Google, Maurice Geraets from NXP and Sean Ding from Alibaba. They will open the Summit with a high-caliber Executive Forum and discuss the latest developments, trends and innovations in the economic and political environment of the semiconductor industry.
Virtual ISS Europe 2021-01-21
The ISS Europe (Virtual Industry Strategy Symposium Europe), the European offshoot of the classic Californian SEMI ISS, which takes place every January, is unaffected by the new summit, at least in terms of dates - this year also as "Virtual ISS 2021" by necessity. ISS Europe will also be held in digital format this year due to the pandemic. Over the course of three days from April 20 to 22, it will cover the topics of "Digital transformation of the European economy and society", "Sustainability strategies for a climate-neutral Europe 2050" and "Healthcare of the future". Here too, renowned experts in their field are expected to discuss pressing issues on the European industrial policy scene.
If possible, the regular Semicon Europa is to take place again in November 2021 as a face-to-face event as part of Productronica in Munich.
