UV moisture-curing adhesive for medical technology

UV moisture-curing adhesive for medical technology

The Vitralit UD 8050 MV F adhesive from Panacol cures not only by primary curing - UV crosslinking - but also by secondary moisture post-crosslinking.

There are two challenges when using plastic bonding on PCBs and FPCBs in medical applications: Not every plastic is transparent, which makes it difficult for UV adhesives to cure reliably. Thermal post-curing is usually used here. However, this is precisely the second limitation, as electronics and plastic can only be subjected to limited thermal stress.

The new adhesive is suitable for such applications. Primary curing takes place within seconds using UV or LED-UV light. Secondary curing of the adhesive in the shadow areas not reached by UV light takes place downstream through moisture post-crosslinking of the isocyanate groups. In contrast to other moisture post-curing adhesives, such as cyanoacrylates, Vitralit UD 8050 MV F can be processed reliably, as its primary curing is based on UV cross-linking and the moisture in the air does not cause the adhesive to cure in the dispensing needle. In addition, there are no blooming effects on the plastics that are typically associated with cyanoacrylates.

The adhesive is certified to ISO 10993-5/-10/-23 for use in medical technology and is suitable for fixing batteries on glucose sensors or for glob tops on SMD components, where the adhesive also cures in the shadow areas under the bonding wires.
