Major challenges

At the two-day live event organized by the VDMA's Micro Technologies and Productronic departments - in cooperation with the PhoenixD Cluster of Excellence as event partner - numerous industry representatives met in Hanover at the end of September to exchange ideas and information on the latest trends and technologies.

The focus was primarily on optics and quantum technologies. On the first day of the event ('Mechanical engineering and global developments - what's next?'), a networking dinner was held with a presentation entitled 'Mobile Robotic Management; robots fly and drive digitally and without borders'. The Hannover Institute of Technology(HITec) was also visited, in particular the Einstein Elevator as a further development of a classic drop tower, which is used to carry out experiments under conditions of weightlessness and a repetition rate of up to 300 experiments per day.

To kick off the networking dinner, the participants immersed themselves in the world of 'Mobile Robotic Management' during a presentation by HHLA-Sky. Further presentations were held the following day: On the global economy shaken by pandemic, war and interest rate hikes (Dr. Markus Wagner, Commerzbank), Challenges in the global economy and how to deal with them in the short and medium term (Anke Uhlig, VDMA Economics and Statistics), Laser Induced Deep Etching (LIDE) (Dr. Klaus Fiedler, LPKF Laser & Electronics), new approaches in optics (PhoenixD Cluster of Excellence), PCB design and SMT production in conflict with miniaturization and packing density (Ralph Kettler, Balluff), concepts and examples of applications for quantum sensor technology (Dr. Nicolas Spethmann, Quantum Technology Competence Centre (QTZ) at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) and quantum computing as a key technology in the mobility industry (Dr. Florian Neukart, Terra Quantum).

During the final factory tour, the participants gained an insight into the ARRALYZE and LIDE processes at LPKF Laser & Electronics. Speakers and participants concluded that the event was a complete success.
