With Y-SPE, Yamaichi Electronics offers a new series of connectors for Industrial Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) in accordance with IEC 63171. It includes IP20 and M12 sockets with IP67 protection for PCB mounting in accordance with IEC standards 63171-2 and -6. Single Pair Ethernet offers efficient data transmission from the sensor to the cloud.
The communication of machines, devices and components in the production environment poses challenges for conventional Ethernet. There were only a few options, especially for cable distances >100 m.
Due to the long range and uniform communication level, Single Pair Ethernet is considered the key to IIoT and Industry 4.0. Transmission only takes place via two contacts and no longer via four or eight contacts. The connectors can therefore be designed smaller than RJ45. Instead of two or four cable pairs, only one pair is required. Both mating faces are available (IEC 63171-2 / -6), as well as 90° and 180° sockets in IP20 and IP67 (IEC 63171-6) and a 90° socket (IEC 63171-2).
SPE enables PoDL (Power over Data Line) - similar to PoE (Power over Ethernet). The limit is around 60 W. Only the two existing wires are required for use. For components that require more energy, hybrid connectors have been proposed as a draft standard, such as 63171-7 for M12. Yamaichi also offers initial prototypes for this. If a customer-specific design is preferred, the user can be supported in the realization.
