ODU is now also offering its Expanded Beam Performance (EBP) optical connection technology in other product variants.
In addition to the AMC T series, EPB is now also available in the MINI-SNAP, MEDI-SNAP, ODU-MAC Silver-Line and ODU-MAC White-Line series. According to the manufacturer, the EBP contactless lens technology for fiber optic systems is characterized by low attenuation values, low cleaning and maintenance requirements and a long service life. The beam expansion/bundling through the lenses of the connector ensures high signal quality, high positioning tolerances and low attenuation values. Cleaning of the lens (ferrule) is only necessary in the event of extreme soiling. Under normal conditions, the maximum service life can be achieved without a single cleaning process. Due to the contactless signal transmission, there is no wear of the 'contact elements', so that at least 50,000 mating cycles can be achieved.
| Typical | Max./Min. | ||
| Insertion loss | Singlemode fiber | < 0.35 dB | < 0.7 dB (max.) |
| Multimode fiber | < 0.15 dB | < 0.3 dB (max.) | |
| Return loss | Singlemode fiber | > 60 dB | ≥ 55 dB (min.) |
| Multimode fiber | > 45 dB | ≥ 35 dB (min.) | |
The series available to date combines EBP technology with a robust circular connector for harsh environments and has already proven itself on the market as an EBP solution.
The circular connector is characterized by reliability and flexibility. Available with push-pull locking, the fiber optic transmission is protected to IP68. According to the manufacturer, this model is currently the smallest 12-pin lens connector solution on the market.
Thanks to its plastic design, the Medi-Snap is up to 75% lighter than comparable products and is therefore suitable for mobile applications, particularly in the medical sector.
The embedding in a modular connector system enables the use of EBP technology together with media such as electrical signals or air and fluids.
