TDK is expanding its MLJ1005-G series (1.0 × 0.5 × 0.5 (mm)) of multilayer inductors for Power-over-Coax (PoC) in automobiles. Driver assistance systems increase vehicle safety with the help of cameras and sensors. In standard configurations, cameras require separate cables for power supply and signal transmission.
With PoC technology, a single coaxial cable can transmit both power and data at the same time, significantly reducing the amount of cabling required. The PoC system requires a filter with multiple inductors to effectively isolate the power supply from the data signal. According to the manufacturer, the new MLJ1005-G series offers advanced functions that are tailored to these requirements. Through proprietary materials and structural design innovations, TDK has minimized impedance degradation during current flow and achieved high impedances at high frequencies. For example, the MLJ1005-G series is optimized to support high frequency performance in response to recent increases in PoC data transfer rates. The tiny devices transmit up to 480 mA current at 105 °C.
