Saft's LS, LSH and LSP series lithium thionyl chloride (SOCl2) batteries offer a low self-discharge rate of maximum 3%. They are the ideal choice when stable performance and a long service life of up to 20 years are required. They work in a wide operating temperature range from -60 to +150 °C. Their cylindrical container (1/2 AA to D) is made of stainless steel and has a hermetic glass-to-metal seal with integrated safety venting. Saft also uses a non-flammable electrolyte.
This combination makes them suitable for applications with special robustness requirements, such as in radio technology (also in the military sector), in security systems, GPS systems, beacons and emergency locating transmitters, as well as for measuring systems, sonobuoys, automotive telematics and pipeline inspection systems.
The nominal capacity is 5.8 Ah, but can vary depending on current consumption, temperature and disconnection. The batteries have an open-circuit voltage of 3.67 V with a nominal voltage of 3.6 V. The high drain or pulse capacity of up to 2000 mA is remarkable. Saft recommends a maximum continuous current of 1300 mA to keep cell heating within safe limits. Additional thermal protection may be required for battery packs. The cells have UL component recognition (MH 12609) and are compliant with IEC 60086-4, IEC60079-11, UL1642, RoHS and Reach.
