With the GMR320 series, Rohm has developed low-resistance high-power shunt resistors for high-performance applications in the automotive industry, in industrial systems and in household appliances.
With a size of 7142, the new components offer resistance values in the range from 5 Ω to 100 Ω and a rated power of 10 W. Their resistance tolerance is specified as F (±1 %). The temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) is ±25 ppm/°C. The operating temperature range is between -65 °C and +170 °C. The GMR320 series is therefore suitable for automotive applications such as engine control units and headlights as well as for motors and power supplies in industrial plants and household appliances. Thanks to a special design and optimized materials, the new series can reduce the temperature rise by 23 % compared to standard shunt resistors and ensure high resistance to overcurrent loads. At the same time, it has the smallest dimensions of any 10 W class resistor on the market. In addition, a high-performance metal alloy as a resistor element ensures a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), which enables reliable and highly accurate current detection even at low resistance values.
From October 2021, thermal simulation models for shunt resistors will also be available on the Rohm website. These models can be used to simulate the thermal design before the actual products are designed, significantly reducing the amount of work required during development.
