A new multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) from Samsung Electro-Mechanics further expands the range of compact, high-capacitance solutions for manufacturers of automotive systems. The CL31B106KBK6PJ# in the 1206 design (3.2 mm x 1.6 mm) offers 10 µF capacitance at a rated voltage of 50 V.
The number of MLCCs in vehicles is increasing rapidly as electrification and the number of functions increase. Today, the number of these critical components per vehicle can amount to several thousand. MLCCs contribute to the safety and reliability of vehicles and support the stability of the circuits on board. By atomizing ceramic and electrode material in-house and using high-precision lamination, the 10µF MLCC in size 1206 for 50 V could be implemented. This means that the MLCC retains its properties in harsh environments such as those found in vehicles.
The new capacitor has an X7R TCC (temperature coefficient of capacitance) and therefore offers a deviation tolerance of ±15% over a temperature range of -55 to +125 °C. This compares favorably to MLCCs with TCC ratings of X7S (±22%) and X7T (+22/-33%). Samples of the CL31B106KBK6PJ# are now available from Samsung Electro-Mechanics.
