A second life for old PV systems

A second life for old PV systems

Solar park operators from all over Germany can now dispose of their old or defective photovoltaic modules at 2ndlifesolar. The recycling expert from Wentorf near Hamburg has set up a Germany-wide logistics network of certified partners who collect systems from customers and transport them away carefully.

2ndlifesolar, a brand of the environmental services provider Buhck, disposes of defective modules in a legally compliant and environmentally friendly manner. The company recycles systems that are still in working order in line with the "second-life approach". The service has already been successfully established in northern Germany. The service is now being offered throughout Germany.

Solar system operators must prove that they recycle or reuse their old modules in accordance with the regulations of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. 2ndlifesolar recycles defective modules in Germany and recovers raw materials such as aluminum, glass and copper. Operators of solar systems receive a certificate of disposal and a quantity report to the Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register.

With a mobile TÜV-certified test laboratory, 2ndlifesolar can also provide its customers with an initial assessment on site as to whether the modules can be recycled. 2ndlifesolar is currently working on setting up further mobile test laboratories. Together with its cooperation partners, the company aims to set up a nationwide network of test stations.
