Measures to prevent uncontrolled fires right from the start are essential today. This is why Cemo has developed a modern fire protection wall with its charging cabinets against the fire hazard posed by today's lithium-ion batteries. The company has now been honored with the GIT Safety Award 2024 in the "Occupational Safety & Explosion Protection" category. The award recognizes innovative developments in various safety-relevant areas. The coveted product award reflects the fact that Cemo has succeeded in setting the important benchmark in terms of fire and explosion protection for lithium batteries with the battery storage & charging cabinet. The decisive factors were the degree of innovation, the cross-industry usability and the TÜV Nord Group's promise of safety.
In a lithium-ion battery, a mechanical defect or overcharging can lead to an internal failure of the protective mechanisms. This causes the electrochemical energy storage device to heat up electrically. If there is enough heat, the electrolyte ignites and the battery burns. However, the gases can also deflagrate and escaping, igniting vapors can lead to an explosion. To protect against devastating consequences, Cemo has developed the charging cabinet with a special door lock for controlled pressure relief in the event of gas ignition. The patented lockEx spring locking system allows the pressure to escape quickly, but flames and burning battery debris are safely contained.
