Declaring waste heat from thermal waste treatment as "renewable energy" is contrary to climate protection targets and the circular economy and violates current federal law, Eric Rehbock, Managing Director of the German Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Management (bvse), made clear in a statement on the planned Hamburg Climate Protection Act.
The inclusion of waste heat from waste incineration plants in the catalog of renewable energies would mean that waste incineration plants would even partially overcompensate for the higher costs due toCO2 pricing by benefiting from extensive state support programs for renewable energies. As a result, waste incineration would become cheaper rather than more expensive, with devastating consequences for the circular economy.
