Water - between fascination and esotericism - Part 3

While science denies this, esoteric circles attribute miraculous properties to water. For example, it is said to have a memory, absorb and store energy.

Water - esoteric tendencies

Geht die Information des Edelsteins in die Information des Wassers über? Wissenschaftler sagen Nein. Foto: Tomislav/stock.adobe.comIs the information in the gemstone transferred to the information in the water? Scientists say no. Photo: Tomislav/stock.adobe.comWaterhas a memory. This statement, which is controversial and even rejected by experts, is allegedly based on research findings that biologically active substances can transfer information to water via electromagnetic signals. Water stores this information, passes it on to biological systems and achieves the same effect as if the substance itself had become active [21]. Quoted verbatim: "Water shows the ability to reproduce effects on biological objects that correspond to the original sample of the preparation". This would mean that information is sufficient for a therapy. Counter-arguments point to a lack of clarity in the mechanisms, particularly with regard to the transfer of information to the water, but also to a lack of specificity in the effectiveness of information copies. However, questions are also raised in this context as to how, for example, the substance water behaves structurally and in its effects as an energy and information carrier when certain forms of energy, such as ultrasound, sound in the audible range, electromagnetic fields, mechanical energy, etc. are introduced.

Living water! Energized water! Structured water! These are terms that are often used to emphasize the energetic state of water as a substance in water remediation or water treatment. The starting point for this is, among other things, the teachings of the nature observer Schauberger, who assigns a certain energy to the life-giver water, which can be accumulated and transformed [22, 23]. However, it is extremely critical to note that there is already extensive commercialization in this field without being able to explicitly prove mechanisms and effects. The scientific community is therefore expected to draw public boundaries in this respect, but also to clarify the possibilities.

From a scientific point of view, esoteric information, such as the prevention of the mass development of blue-green algae in bathing lakes with the help of so-called ion-water or photon-water generators (mechanisms of action not specified) in connection with the introduction of spiritual information by shamans [24], should be rejected in principle.

The idea of using juvenile water, i.e. water coming from the earth's interior and participating in the water cycle for the first time, on a large scale as a reserve to avoid or eliminate water shortages on earth is also controversial [21]. Apart from doubts about the practicality of this, the effects, especially on the natural water cycle, would be uncertain in many respects.

It should be borne in mind that the Earth's water resources are constant. The increase in regional water shortages results primarily from the dynamics of climate change with corresponding effects on the natural water cycle and from deficits in water use, including increasing water pollution, and is therefore anthropogenic. The generally applicable principle of "prevention before remediation (repair)" should therefore also serve as a guideline for practical action in this case and any repair measures that are necessary in the meantime should always be subjected to critical evaluation.

MaxSafaniuk/stock.adobe.comAdditional treatment of drinking water at the household tap is not necessary. Nevertheless, there are numerous systems. MaxSafaniuk/stock.adobe.comFinally,let's briefly return to drinking water in connection with the statements on esotericism. "Drinking water is the best-tested foodstuff. Water that meets the quality requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance offers a high level of safety and requires no additional treatment." This is the opinion of the experts. Nevertheless, domestic drinking water after-treatment systems are increasingly being used, which are offered to consumers by private companies on a large scale, unspecifically and sometimes with esoteric-sounding effects. Examples are not given as they would go beyond the scope of this publication. However, as marketing often calls into question the quality of drinking water in general, this approach should be rejected. The competent institutions are expected to provide effective public information in this regard. However, as pollutants that are not listed in the Drinking Water Ordinance may well be contained in drinking water, post-treatment systems should be advocated in individual cases. However, this should only be done in technical consultation with the respective central water supply company and on the condition that the application is accompanied by water chemistry and toxicology studies.

Separation processes such as special filters or reverse osmosis should then be used. Material conversion processes such as membrane or diaphragm electrolysis, on the other hand, are not recommended, as unfavorable effects on the overall ion balance and pollutant formation in drinking water cannot be ruled out due to electrochemical reactions at the electrodes.

Conclusion and outlook

Fair use of the vital resource of water is being called into question for the future as a result of climate change and anthropogenic water pollution in conjunction with increasing conflicts (personal opinion of the author).

However, the assessment of water, its quality, its behaviour and its effectiveness should not only be resource-related and should not only take into account water constituents, but also the molecular structure of the substance water and its changes, some of which are based on self-organization. The interactions in biological systems mentioned several times in the article can serve as an example of this. The variety of manifestations of water offers further starting points for interrelated considerations between water as a resource and water structure. Some aspects were mentioned in the article. However, there was a further concern associated with building bridges. Phenomenal effects of water, which are discussed in connection with the physical structure of water and the influence of various forms of energy, often convey an esoteric impression and are therefore usually immediately rejected by experts. However, modern physics provides a number of arguments for dealing with such phenomena critically but without prejudice. The prerequisite is, of course, that the relevant observations can be classified as reliable. The statistical validation of observational results should suffice as scientific proof for the time being if the prerequisites for clarifying mechanisms of action are not yet in place.
