The batteries in electric cars are more durable than consumers sometimes fear. The experts at DEKRA have deduced this from more than 25,000 "state-of-health" tests that have been carried out to date using the patented DEKRA battery rapid test procedure. Even at higher mileages, the vast majority of traction batteries are still in good condition. One example is the Jaguar electric cabs that went into service in Munich in 2018.
On the used car market, many potential buyers are still very cautious when it comes to electric vehicles. "For example, many people transfer their experiences with smartphone batteries to the topic of electromobility. They have experienced that mobile devices have a noticeably lower battery capacity after just a few years and fear the same effect with electric vehicles," says Christoph Nolte, Executive Vice President of DEKRA and Head of the Service Division Vehicles.
"Our experience with the rapid battery test shows significantly longer service lives. The traction batteries are very good overall. Even at higher mileages, we still find a 'state of health' of over 90 percent in most cases."
