His professional career began in the healthcare sector: After training as a nurse, he worked in intensive care medicine and cardiac surgery before his interest in technology led him to electroplating. This was followed by training as a surface coater, a master craftsman's certificate and positions in various specialist and management positions - including production and operations manager. From 2006, he worked in the family business, ruhl & Co. Metallveredelung GmbH, which he realigned as managing partner from 2011. The repositioning as B+T Oberflächentechnik GmbH marked the beginning of a dynamic development into today's group of companies, which, in addition to surface technology, also includes analytical services - most recently with the founding of BAG Analytics GmbH in 2022.
