The TDK Electronics subsidiary relyon plasma GmbH is cooperating with its customer, Viromed Medical GmbH, in the application of cold atmospheric pressure plasma in medicine. Viromed has developed the ViroCap system based on relyon plasma's piezoelectric direct discharge technology. This is designed to use cold atmospheric pressure plasma in dermatology. The treatment activates the body's own regeneration processes; reactive species are intended to stimulate cell metabolism and activate the wound healing process. In addition, the two companies are working with partners to investigate the disinfecting effect of plasma using the MediPlas RONS generator (Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species) in infection research. The aim is to kill bacteria in the respiratory tract in order to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The novel, non-antibiotic preventive measure is intended to protect patients from this serious complication. The exploitation rights are held by Viromed Medical AG. At Arab Health, the global healthcare exhibition in Dubai, from January 27-30, 2025, relyon plasma presented Viromed's ViroCap system for the first time alongside its existing products PiezoBrush PZ3 and MediPlas system.
