Machining lightweight materials such as CFRP, GFRP and CFRP-titanium and CFRP-aluminum stacks is no easy task. If you want to countersink precisely into sandwich materials with a high surface quality, you need special tools such as the CCDia AeroSpeed coated countersink from Dürr Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH. The company is an expert in the manufacture of drilling, countersinking and reaming tools for a wide range of materials, in standard and special designs.
In order to overcome the challenges involved in developing a countersink for machining composite materials, the company drew on CemeCon's expertise. Wear-resistant tools with an extremely smooth and hard surface and a special geometry with very sharp cutting edges were required.
It was therefore important to maintain the extremely sharp cutting edges during coating. The ultra-thin coating specification based on CCDia AeroSpeed does not affect the micro-geometry and therefore also the sharpness. Thanks to the extremely smooth surface topography of the coating, the countersinks work without vibration or chattering, and chips and heat are optimally removed from the machining zone. With a coating hardness of around 10,000 HV0.05, close to natural diamond, the tool also offers excellent resistance to high-strength and highly abrasive fibers. The DIAplus countersink is the result of intensive collaboration, the perfect combination of optimized cutting geometry, selected carbide grade and coordinated diamond coating.
