EEW funding program launches and accelerates energy efficiency projects

A change to the funding guidelines for federal funding for energy and resource efficiency in the economy (EEW) is now coming into force. What is new is that companies can start implementing their projects immediately after submitting their application - previously they had to wait for their application to be approved before receiving funding.

The new regulation means that investments of around 3 billion euros per year and the associated final energy savings of around 7 TWh can be realized more quickly. Energy consumption can thus be reduced more quickly, which is good news in view of the energy crisis. EEW is the most important funding program of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) for increasing energy and resource efficiency and expanding renewable process heat in industry and commerce. With over 10,000 approved applications per year, EEW has made an important contribution to reducing energy consumption andCO2 emissions since its launch in 2019. The funding program is open to all technologies - from waste heat recovery and material and energy savings to the use of solar process heat - the main thing is thatCO2 emissions are reduced. The measure begins early and also includes the "energy and resource-related optimization of plants and processes". Large projects with high savings are often implemented here. Measured in terms of energy andCO2 savings, it is the most important part of the program. Implementation is carried out by KfW (loans) and BAFA (grants).
