Clariant (CH-Muttenz) is celebrating a milestone in the company's history this year. Exolit AP flame retardants have now been on the market for 50 years. These are based on ammonium polyphosphate (APP) technology and have become the industry standard in a wide range of applications. These include intumescent coatings, fire protection sealing systems, thermoset composites for housings and coatings of batteries for electric mobility, rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation foams and more. On the occasion of this golden anniversary, the Muttenz-based company is also thinking about the future. The successful market launch of the melamine-free Exolit AP is a significant step towards a more sustainable flame retardant technology. This SVHC-free solution without the addition of melamine underlines Clariant's commitment to meet stringent safety and sustainability requirements while ensuring superior fire resistance in various passive fire protection (PFP) solutions such as fire protection systems and intumescent coatings as well as flame retardant applications such as insulation boards. Similar to the increasing acceptance of PFAS-free alternatives in various markets, a clear shift in purchasing behavior towards safer solutions can also be observed for PFP.
