The issue of weight reduction is still important for electric vehicles too, and cost savings even more so, of course. Both are possible for components that were previously made from die-cast aluminum and then had to be CNC-machined.
The decisive innovation comes from the company Biconex GmbH and is a simple process for the metallic coating of injection-molded parts made of PPS (polyphenylene sulfide). The galvanic process produces stable coating systems with excellent EM shielding, is naturally chromium (VI)-free and is already available in a production plant that meets automotive standards. The end product is fully recyclable and theCO2 footprint is only a fraction of that of the aluminum variant.
