The European Parliament and the Council of the EU have reached an agreement in the trilogue negotiations on the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA). This is intended to improve the investment conditions for climate-friendly technologies in the EU, such as photovoltaic systems.
Kerstin Andreae, Chairwoman of the BDEW Executive Board, explains: "The trilogue agreement creates the basis for strengthening the domestic transformation industries without giving up the advantages of globalization and free trade. The development of production capacities for renewable energy plants in Germany and Europe is strategically important in order to reduce dependencies in energy transition technologies and increase resilience. In Germany, the topic of resilience is currently being discussed primarily with regard to the solar industry. In order to strengthen existing stages of the value chain in the production of photovoltaic modules in Germany and Europe, it must be ensured that modules from these plants can hold their own on the market. From the perspective of the German energy industry, moving away from a purely price-based evaluation in tenders for renewable energies towards greater consideration of the contribution of bids to sustainability and resilience is a sensible way to support these important aspects of the energy supply.
