Infineon Technologies launches the IM523 series of the CIPOS Mini family. The IPMs (Intelligent Power Modules) are based on the new 600 V Reverse Conducting Drive 2 (RCD2) IGBT technology with open emitter. CIPOS IM523 enables the integration of various power and control components. The new IPMs are designed to control three-phase motors in low and medium power variable speed drives for domestic appliances, industrial fans and industrial drives up to 1.4 kW.
The RCD2 IGBTs are combined with silicon-on-insulator (SOI) gate drivers, which enables low power dissipation of the system. The configuration of the three-phase inverter with open emitters is integrated in a 36 x 21 mm DIP housing. This is adapted to power applications that require good thermal conduction and electrical insulation. The series has the lowest switching losses and offers high energy efficiency, particularly in applications with a high switching frequency.
The components are available in current ratings from 6 to 17 A and with a breakdown voltage of 600 V. A UL-certified NTC thermistor for temperature monitoring, an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) on all channels and overcurrent protection functions (OCP) increase system reliability. The housing and potting compound offer resistance to moisture. The IPMs are also designed with bootstrap circuitry to simplify PCB layout. The industry standard package allows for quick and easy design conversion of existing mini IPMs (P2P) without PCB redesign, which shortens time to market.
