Elektrotechnik Weber, Zandt, a specialist for reworking in electronics production, has developed an innovative and environmentally friendly process for repairing gold contacts and surfaces. The thermal process, which complies with IPC-7711C/IPC-7721C, enables solder-wetted, mechanically damaged or worn gold contacts and surfaces to be reworked so that they are restored to a new condition.
Existing contact coatings are first thermally removed down to the nickel layer.
This is neither impaired nor mechanically damaged. No grooves are created on the nickel layer. The contact surfaces are then electrolytically regilded.
Elektrotechnik Weber's process is particularly suitable for use on PCBs that have already been assembled and can "save" them in most cases. This repair of gold contacts and surfaces is much more cost-effective than disposing of damaged assemblies and manufacturing new ones. -dir/gk-
