Below is a preview of selected presentations at this year's SEMICON Europa 2024.
Session: Integrated Photonics
Wednesday, November 13, 2024 10:00 am - 4:50 pm,
Executive Forum, Hall C2
15:10: Presentation by Saif Wakeel
15:30: Anna Bölcskei-Molnár
A series of short presentations on the progress of III-V semiconductor technology promises to reflect the current state of research.
Among others, materials scientist Anna Bölcskei-Molnárfrom Semilab, Budapest (Hungary), will speak about ellipsometry as an important method in the silicon photonics industry, which enables precise, non-destructive measurements of layer thickness, refractive index and surface roughness for the manufacture of components. Ellipsometry is designed to improve the performance and reliability of photonic electronics.
Also exciting: A presentation by Saif Wakeel, PhD student at the Tyndall Institute, University College Cork. He will talk about new packaging processes to achieve the optical connectivity of photonic microelectronics - for example in data center applications with their massive increase in bandwidth.
Session: Materials Innovation
Thursday , Nov. 14, 2024
13:45 - 14:50
Techarena, Hall C1
Material innovations in semiconductors will be discussed in a series of lectures at SEMICON-Techarana.
The presentation by Miika Mattinen, postdoc at the University of Helsinki, at 14:30 will be of interest. He will focus on atomic layer deposition of 2D materials for semiconductor and power electronics. Due to their atomic thinness, they promise a further - one could say ultimate - scaling of microelectronics. However, there is still a lack of deposition processes that can produce the required uniform layers.
Miika Mattinen explains the existing challenges of the widely used ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) process and the key role of ALD chemistry in the scalable synthesis of 2D materials for future semiconductor and energy applications.
