The EMS and mechatronics company Digital Elektronik has expanded its production capacities as part of a new building project. Two new, ultra-modern lines were built at the site in St. Leonhard near Salzburg. The Serio 4000 printing system from Ekra is integrated into both. With the investment in the new systems, Digital Elektronik is continuing its long-standing collaboration with the Asys subsidiary: the total solutions provider has been using machines from the printer manufacturer in its production facilities since 1987.
"The new production hall is state-of-the-art. All processes are automated, and we have also integrated the warehouse and logistics. This gives us maximum flexibility in production," says Hans Eichinger, Head of Assembly at Digital Elektronik.
Both Serio 4000s are equipped with APS (automatic pin placement). "We were particularly impressed by this option for double-sided PCBs. We can now optimally prepare these PCBs for the process within a reasonable time." With APS, pins are automatically and reliably placed, verified and, if necessary, their position corrected by offset. After printing, the pins are automatically removed and deformed copies are sorted out. "We can rely on components not being damaged by pins," says Eichinger. "The added value turned out to be so positive that we decided to buy another pin magazine for each of the two printers. This means we have twice the number of pins available and can therefore react even more flexibly to products of different sizes."
A highlight of the system is the Simplex machine operation system from Asys/Ekra, which is unparalleled on the market. Intuitive, the Serio 4000 is very easy to operate at the touch of a finger - just like a smartphone. Eichinger also confirms this: "The machine operation is really successful. Our employees were quite skeptical at first. They had previously worked for years with the systems they were familiar with and knew virtually every work step by heart. But they quickly adapted and are now even faster at operating the systems." In addition to the printing systems, Digital Elektronik also opted for three S10 mobiles from Ekra. These mobile stencil set-up stations offer space and the option of storing printing accessories neatly and clearly. The traceability options were expanded with a laser island. The Insignum 4000 from Asys is used here. Digital Elektronik also relies on the Asys Considus dry storage cabinet and various Asys handling systems.
