In 1941, an American radio repairman was tired of waiting for his soldering gun to heat up. He invented a method based on a transformer to heat up the soldering iron immediately. Carl E. Weller registered his patent on July 14, 1941, exactly 80 years ago.
However, he had to wait until the end of the Second World War before he was able to put his Weller Manufacturing Company in Pennsylvania into operation in 1945 and the patent was granted on August 13, 1946. This technology established a new generation of hand soldering.
As components in the electronics industry, medical technology and aerospace became smaller, more complex and more powerful over time, Weller also adapted its soldering stations and soldering tips to meet the increasing requirements. Today, the company's industrial products are divided into the Performance, Technology and Efficiency lines in order to offer specific solutions for each customer group.
