Award for Women in Chemistry goes to Prof. Sarah Reisman

Sarah Reisman, Professor at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), is the winner of the first Dr. Margaret Faul Award for Women in Chemistry. Together with her research group, she is breaking new ground in the synthesis of natural products. With the Dr. Margaret Faul Award for Women in Chemistry, Thieme Chemistry and the publishers of Science of Synthesis honor young female chemists who have made a significant contribution to synthetic chemistry in the first 15 years of their independent career. The prize money of 5000 euros is intended to support the award winner in her future career.
Professor Sarah Reisman heads an innovative research program at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, USA, which deals with the synthesis of bioactive natural substances. The researchers can only achieve their goal of completely synthesizing the complex substances in the laboratory by constantly developing new synthesis methods. The result is, for example, a new way of producing pyrroloindolines and artificial tryptophan derivatives. Another research focus is nickel catalysis, with a focus on asymmetric and reductive cross-couplings.
The first Dr. Margaret Faul Award for Women in Chemistry will be presented to Professor Reisman in July 2019 at the European Symposium on Organic Chemistry in Vienna, Austria.
