A particularly efficient drying solution for lithium battery electrodes from Bavaria has now been successfully put into operation on a pilot production line at an Asian battery manufacturer. The manufacturer relies on Bearlite (Battery electrode advanced rapid light initiated thermal emission) technology from Adphos in Brückmühl, Bavaria.
The drying technology processes and dries wet electrode coatings within 8 seconds and has 85% lower electricity costs compared to standard convection dryers. The quality of the stand-alone solution is said to offer production results without cracking. With a wet coating thickness of 280 µm, which corresponds to a coating thickness of 110 µm when dry, the coating adheres properly to the substrate. The Bearlite drying system can be integrated into a combined drying process with conventional hot air, providing a highly efficient booster solution with a small footprint. The booster application is installed upstream of the convection dryer and leads to a two-fold increase in production.
