Cooperation for brake disk coating

Cooperation for brake disk coating

Machine tool manufacturer EMAG and laser coating expert HPL Technologies have agreed on a far-reaching cooperation in the field of hard coating of brake disks. Hard-coated brake discs are the preferred solution for compliance with the "EURO 7" particulate matter limits.

The European Commission published the new "Euro 7" draft standard on November 10, 2022. This standard is to apply to passenger cars and vans from July 1, 2025 and to commercial vehicles and buses from July 1, 2027. As part of the new regulation, limit values for particulate emissions from braking systems will be set for the first time worldwide. HPL Technologies and EMAG are jointly developing a hard coating system to meet the automotive industry's stringent requirements for coated brake discs. The Wecodur assemblies from HPL Technologies will be integrated into the EMAG machine platform for laser deposition welding. This enables automobile manufacturers and brake disc producers to benefit from the far-reaching advantages of rapid and sustainable scaling of production technology. At the same time, the integration of the Wecodur technology packages gives the automotive industry access to the innovative and proven Wecodur coating technologies and tribological systems.

With this cooperation, EMAG is expanding its comprehensive offering as a turnkey supplier for the complete process chain of brake disk production, from soft machining and laser coating to final grinding.
