"Industry 4.0 will be of great importance in the future for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are familiar with joining, cutting and coating materials and material composites. However, the potential of IT-based manufacturing has not yet been sufficiently exploited by many. Often, the entire process chain in welding technology is not digitized or there is a lack of digital expertise for the implementation of IT-based processes in joining production. For this reason, a white paper from the DVS - German Welding Society is now dealing with this topic.
The DVS white paper "Benefiting from progress: Industry 4.0 in welding technology" was developed by the "Industry 4.0" working group (WG) in the Committee for Technology (AfT). It provides an initial introduction to the topic, identifies the benefits of digitalization for welding companies and lists contact points and information platforms. The white paper is the first in a series of technical articles that provide information about Industry 4.0 and will be published in the magazine SCHWEISSEN UND SCHNEIDEN from March 2021.
As a professional association, DVS is committed to a fundamental understanding and further development of welding digitization. The "Industry 4.0" working group at DVS acts as a mediator and communication platform. It bundles information on this complex and fast-moving topic and makes it available to DVS members.
