Innovation competition on sustainable chemistry and renewable energies launched

Applications are now open for the ISC3 innovation competition focusing on sustainable chemistry and renewable energies. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2021, and the winner can look forward to a cash prize of 15,000 euros.

The "Innovation Challenge 2020/2021", organized by the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3), is aimed at international innovators who develop novel solutions in the field of sustainable chemistry with a focus on renewable energies, in particular in the following areas

  • Sustainable chemical solutions for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy supply through renewable energies
  • High-performance technologies, materials and substances with a lower negative impact on the environment and human health for use in renewable energy supply
  • Chemical production technologies based on carbon-neutral energy supply and the use ofCO2 as a raw material
  • Establishment, development and installation of energy storage systems

Innovators and entrepreneurs from developing countries as well as innovators addressing challenges of developing countries are particularly encouraged to apply.

After completion of the evaluation phase for the first and second application round (June 1 - July 9, 2021), five finalists will be selected. They will receive access to individualized services as part of the ISC3 Global Start-up Service , including pitch training, personalized coaching, networking event and external visibility of the start-up through the ISC3 communication channels. The winners of the Innovation Challenge 2020/2021 will be honored at the Investor Forum 2021 in November. In addition to the main prize of EUR 15,000, two further prizes of EUR 5,000 each will be awarded for the categories "Best Social Impact" and "Best Regional Impact". All three Challenge winners will also receive a digital winner's certificate.

As the transformation of the chemical sector plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges of many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the ISC3 Innovation Challenge aims to recognize innovative solutions in the field of sustainable chemistry and support their innovators. The ISC3 Innovation Challenge is an annual innovation competition that is thematically oriented towards a focus topic that is also chosen annually. The first ISC3 Innovation Challenge 2019/20 honored innovations in the field of "Sustainable Building and Living". The second ISC3 Innovation Challenge 2020/2021 is dedicated to innovative solutions with a focus on "sustainable chemistry and renewable energies".
