Production decline continues

In 2023, the German copper industry recorded a 10% decline in production compared to the previous year to 1.3 million tons. Of this, the production of copper casting alloys fell by 26% to 19,000 tons.

The most important sector, the production of rolled, pressed and drawn products made of copper and copper alloys, recorded a year-on-year decline of 22% to 629,000 tons in 2023. In contrast, the wire rod sector recorded growth of an estimated 8% to 609,000 tons in the same period.

Meanwhile, powder production fell to an estimated 13,000 tons (minus 17%).

The German copper industry currently employs 15,000 people in around 60 companies.
