The new guideline VDI 2035 Sheet 1 provides recommendations for preventing damage caused by scale formation and water-side corrosion in hot water heating systems in accordance with DIN EN 12828, where the intended flow temperature does not exceed 100 °C. It applies to hot water heating systems within a building that are operated temporarily or permanently in direct hydraulic connection with cold or cooling water circuits that are closed against corrosion.
New guideline VDI 2035 Sheet 1 shows measures to prevent damage caused by scale formation and water-side corrosion
The need to save space and resources has led to significant progress in the field of heating technology in recent years: Systems have become smaller and more efficient. They therefore meet the need of many people to save energy. However, the new technology has become much more sensitive and therefore more demanding when it comes to heating water. Damaging scale formation and corrosion occur more quickly, even under optimum conditions. The VDI 2035 series of guidelines deals with the causes and measures to protect hot water heating systems from these problems.
VDI 2035 Sheet 1 is aimed at heating engineers and manufacturers, as well as experts and inspectors in connection with heating systems. Its application is mandatory for newly built or refurbished hot water heating systems in Germany.
The guideline is also applicable to heat contracting systems for building supply, provided that the make-up water volume over the entire operating period is no more than twice as large as the filling water volume. If the make-up water volume exceeds the fill water volume, AGFW Code of Practice FW 510 or VdTÜV Code of Practice TVh 1466 applies.
VDI 2035 Sheet 1 "Avoiding damage in hot water heating systems - scale formation and water-side corrosion" is published by the VDI Society for Construction and Building Technology (GBG). The guideline was published as a white print in March 2021 and replaces the draft from March 2019. It can be ordered from Beuth Verlag (Tel.: +49 30 2601-2260) at a price starting at EUR 162.60. Online orders are possible at www.vdi.de/2035 or www.beuth.de. VDI members receive a 10 percent discount on all VDI guidelines. VDI guidelines can be viewed free of charge at many public display points.
