Schoolgirls immerse themselves in the world of electroplating and surface technology

Emma, Lena and both Luisas sought a direct line to the electroplating experts at Dr.-Ing. Max Schlötter GmbH & Co. KG in Geislingen on "Girls Day".

The schoolgirls from the Realschule Steinheim and the Helfenstein Gymnasium in Geislingen did not find it difficult to get involved in the unusual, even exotic profession of surface coater, because in a highly technical world, technical and decorative surfaces are used everywhere, from spectacle frames and chrome-plated water fittings to electronic components in smartphones and cars. Electroplating can therefore be found in almost all sectors of our modern world, making it one of the most diverse professional fields there is. The young visitors quickly understood that this profession requires a high level of technical understanding of chemistry and technology to ensure that you end up with the surface properties you want. Lena and Emma were very interested in the different types of surface processes, such as copper, nickel, tin, silver, gold and chrome surfaces, which are used for different applications. They were particularly impressed by an immersion bath in the electroplating test facility, which can turn a matt workpiece into a shiny gold piece. "The wide range of possibilities in coating technology and, above all, the exciting insight into the large research and development department at Schlötter" impressed Emma.

Over lunch with some of the eight Schlötter trainees, the GirlsDay participants learned that Schlötter offers training in seven areas and that there is also the opportunity to go to an English-speaking Schlötter site abroad for a few weeks during the in-company training. One of this year's "finishers" of the apprenticeship at Schlötter in Geislingen even graduated as the best of the year.
