Evonik introduces a new product for matting powder coatings with SPHERILEX® technology: SPHERILEX® DP-0115 is a patented precipitated silica for matting powder coatings from the portfolio of the Coating Additives Business Line. This unique type of precipitated silica has a proven track record as a matting agent for efficient, uniform and consistent matting of powder coatings. It also improves the hardness and flexibility of the final powder coating. The matting effect is not dependent on the curing temperature and works across all chemistries and formulations. The main applications are highly resistant polyesters and acrylics in general industrial, automotive and architectural powder coatings.
SPHERILEX® DP-0115 has been developed in a patented process to minimize porosity and maximize the sphericity of the particle. This allows for increased loading of powder coatings without negatively affecting the melt flow during curing. As a result, a consistent and uniformly high surface quality is achieved.
The new matting agent can be easily incorporated with the other raw materials and dispersed in the extruder so that it is evenly distributed in the final powder. Due to its low oil count and particle shape, it can improve the overall hardness of the final coating without compromising flexibility. It can also be added to reduce the gloss level of a high-gloss powder coating.
