Vapour phase soldering is a soldering process that offers a number of advantages over convection soldering, which is mainly used today, such as uniform heating of almost all components, no overheating, no shadow effects, problem-free use of lead-free solders, etc. Nevertheless, acceptance of the process has been rather modest to date. The topic of vapour phase soldering has been dealt with very sparingly in the literature to date.

This book aims to provide fundamental and comprehensive information about the process, which is becoming increasingly interesting as a joining method in electronics, particularly in view of the increasing complexity of flat electronic assemblies and the requirement for them to be lead-free.

The first chapters of the book deal with the basics that contribute to an understanding of the process and with the current situation in SMT production.

From chapter 12 onwards, the author presents his experiences gained during the evaluation of the process at Siemens AG. This makes the book particularly interesting for anyone considering introducing vapour phase soldering into their manufacturing process.
