NX502 control units with optimized control and safety functions

Omron presents the new NX502 CPU automation controllers of the NX series with advanced information and safety control at the same time as new NX-EIP201 EtherNet/IP units. Production sites today are striving forCO2 neutrality and are paying more attention to their ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) management. The new NX502 CPUs and NX-EIP201 EtherNet/IP units offer large memory capacity to enable real-time analytics and modularization. This enables companies to operate more sustainably, minimize waste and shorten lead times for line changes.

The NX502's data acquisition with a jitter of 1 μs or less and a data transfer capacity that is about four times higher than comparable controllers (NJ501) enables real-time analysis of production-related data. Examples include temperature, pressure or flow rate. Companies benefit from rapid process improvements and can reduce resource losses at different production sites.

The production of high-quality crystals, for example for solar cells, requires real-time monitoring and control of fluctuating production-related data based on varying conditions. The NX502 detects production problems at an early stage and ensures the robust mass production of crystals. The NX502 and NX-EIP201 have integrated control technologies that enable monitoring of large production lines by means of module subdivision through up to eight network system separations and up to 254 safety connections. This allows sub-processes to be adjusted and controlled even on large lines with minimal impact on overall operations. Companies can thus maximize their energy productivity and significantly minimize lead times when changing lines.

One application example is welding systems for car body frames. If it becomes necessary to change processes due to market requirements, only relevant areas can be stopped while the mixed production of different vehicle models continues. The NX502 and NX-EIP201 have separate network and safety systems that enable a flexible response to detailed changes in production facilities, for example when adding welding processes.
