Reference design for automotive cameras

Renesas Electronics and OmniVision have introduced an integrated reference design for high-definition automotive camera systems. It enables developers to efficiently and economically design HD video systems for all vehicle classes. The reference design is based on Renesas' Automotive HD Link (AHL) technology, which transmits high-definition video signals via low-cost cables and connectors. The AHL components are used with OmniVision's 1.3 MP OX01F10 SoC. This provides the industry's best imaging in challenging lighting conditions with a compact form factor and lowest power consumption.

The new RAA279971 AHL encoder and RAA279972 decoder use modulated analog signals. This enables transmission rates ten times lower than with the digital transmission of HD signals. This means that unshielded twisted pair cables and inexpensive standard connectors as well as analog video cables can be used. AHL can be combined with other Renesas products such as R-Car automotive SoCs, RH850 MCUs, automotive PMICs and analog components to implement safety functions at low cost.

The OX01F10 SoC integrates a 3.0 µm image sensor and an image signal processor with OmniVision's PureCel Plus technology for low noise. This solves the challenges of rear view cameras and surround view systems with excellent performance in difficult lighting conditions. It offers extremely low power consumption and reduced costs with increased reliability as designs with single printed board become feasible.
