A sustainable and growing use of technology is based on reliable products as well as reliable planning and professionally accepted requirements. In order to support the broad and safe use of large-scale lithium-ion storage systems, to provide a professional basis for approval practice and to further strengthen the foundation of the growing industry, BVES has worked with specialist partners to develop the first guidelines for fire protection in large-scale lithium-ion storage systems.
The aim of the document is to ensure a uniform level of information for planners, building owners, emergency services, insurance companies and approval authorities. The publication focuses on current information on hazards, structural, system-related and organizational protective measures as well as information on risk assessment for insurers. The document also provides information for emergency services, such as recommendations for suitable extinguishing agents and extinguishing systems as well as tactics for firefighting.
Experts from relevant areas such as the German Fire Brigade Association, agbf Bund (Association of Professional Fire Brigades at federal level), GdV (German Insurance Association), VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH, DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance), BG ETEM (Employers' Liability Insurance Association for the Energy, Textile, Electrical and Media Products Industry) were involved in the creation of the guide.
The fire protection guidelines are available to download from the BVES website and will be adapted and further developed over the next few years as required.
