The money is not on the street, but on the roof - as many solar providers are currently propagating. And rightly so. Vacant roof surfaces, such as those of supermarkets, offer an often underestimated potential for photovoltaic systems.
These energetically valuable areas are also the focus of WI Energy from Trier. The company supports supermarket operators with flexible remuneration models to help them make the most of their financial opportunities. The latest coup with the GRR Group in Nuremberg now paves the way for the expansion of supermarket roofs with high-performance solar systems. The GRR Group specializes in retail properties in the local supply segment in Germany and currently manages around 500 properties. In cooperation with Carmona Energy & MW Energietechnik in Hutthurm, WI Energy fulfilled three key criteria in the selection process against several competitors.
One important criterion was the remuneration of the respective supermarket owners with a lease payment for the roofs. This is calculated on the basis of the expected kilowatt peak sum that can be generated on the roof. It makes sense to build on roof areas of 2,000 m² or more. The second important point is that it should be possible to offer the electricity generated by the PV systems to the relevant retail market for direct purchase. In this way, some of the electricity can be consumed directly in the store. Another decisive criterion in choosing the right partner was the one-stop solution - both in terms of construction and ongoing operation.
