Nitrogen dioxide may not exceed an annual average limit value of 40 μg/m3 in outdoor areas according to the 39th Federal Immission Control Ordinance, while for particulate matter in the smaller PM2.5 variant, a value of 25 μg/m3 counts as the maximum valid throughout Europe. Measuring stations are required to check these values. However, this usually means high initial investments for the respective company or the responsible municipality. To solve these problems, Green Way Systems GmbH has developed a compact measuring station.
The air monitor is a compact box that can be quickly and easily mounted on standard masts with diameters of 6 to 40 cm using a universal bracket. The model is available to rent on a daily basis, so that the costs are billed exactly as required. This means that there are no acquisition costs that would only justify a purchase after many years of constant use. This keeps the barrier to entry to comprehensive and targeted air quality monitoring low.
A tried and tested product from a well-known manufacturer was installed as the measuring sensor. It accurately detects pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter and sulphur dioxide. In addition to these substances, the ozone and carbon monoxide content is also measured using proprietary algorithms, while two different values for particulate matter are output for the particle sizes PM10 and PM2.5. The air monitor can also measure temperature, air pressure and humidity. The data is recorded at regular intervals of 5 minutes (for gases) and 10 minutes (for particulate matter) and then processed by in-house software. To enable evaluation from a distance, the air monitor® sends the values to a server using SSL encryption via a special SIM card that is compatible with all mobile phone networks.
