More recycling secures raw material supply

More recycling secures raw material supply

Raw materials are used along the entire value chain and have become an integral part of our daily lives. For example, over 60 different raw materials are used in a smartphone. Metallic raw materials, which are primarily used for high-tech products, usually have to be imported.

As the supply situation for many important raw materials is becoming increasingly critical for Germany as an industrial location, the new VDI status report "Strategic use of raw materials in Germany" sheds light on economic, environmental and political factors that have an impact on availability.

It provides an overview of the availability of primary and secondary raw materials in our country. The publication takes an in-depth look at the energy supply, chemical industry, plastics processing industry and metal industry sectors. It also addresses specific issues in the "vehicles" sector, focusing in particular on raw material issues in fuel cell and battery vehicles.
